New generation multi-valve petrol and common-rail diesel engines not only offer lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions, but also deliver outstanding performance and a truly sporty drive. Unlike previous generation diesel engines, common-rail diesel injection uses a high-pressure pump which pressurises the fuel in a tube (the common rail), which then, in turn, supplies each computer-controlled injector.

The 16-valve petrol engines are available in 1.4 and 1.6 derivatives.

The 5-speed manual gearbox transmits power with short, accurate shifts and easy handling, making shifting gears seamlessly smooth.

The sporty 6-speed Tiptronic gearboxes are perfectly matched to the engines of the New Polo. The ability to select any gear “manually” in addition to all the benefits of an automatic gearbox, highlights the sense of comfort and luxury combined with class-leading dynamics that permeates the New Polo.

The New Polo is one of the safest compact cars in the world. It punches way above its weight with a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, thanks to safety features like its improved impact resistance, crumple zones, optional ESP, rear foglight, high level rear brake light and ISOFIX child seat mountings.

In addition, the New Polo features an advanced airbag system with four airbags (a driver and front passenger airbag, as well as two side airbags) and improved ABS, improving overall safety.

The two whiplash-optimised front head restraints not only ensure additional comfort, but also provide effective support for the head and spine in the event of a collision.

A high level third brake light integrated into the rear spoiler enhances aesthetics and improves vehicle safety and visibility to other vehicles.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), standard on the TDI and optional on the petrol 1.6 Comfortline, intelligently controls the engine management system to restore traction to individual wheels when it detects a loss of grip. It helps to correct oversteer, understeer and loss of control of the vehicle.

Front fog lights, standard on the Comfortline, not only add a striking look to the front of the vehicle, but provide safety in bad weather or when there is poor visibility.

Optional Park Distance Control enables effortless parking through rear parking sensors that emit acoustic signals, alerting you to obstacles when parking.
