Design
The Scirocco is all about design. Dynamic, strong lines combine with an ultra sleek and modern interior to produce the Scirocco’s aggressive and powerful stance. It is a true sports coupe with the dynamic lines of a sports car.
At 4.26 metres in length and a width of 1.81 metres, this sports coupe is unrivalled by any other. The wide track provides the basis for sporty road holding and stable cornering – adding to its aggressive stance on the road.
The most striking characteristic of the Scirocco is the viper–like front grille and imposing bonnet. The 1.80 metre long estate–coupe roof extends back into a steeply sloping, muscular rear. This long flowing roof line creates a spacious interior that comfortably accommodates four adults.
Exterior
- The standard 17–inch alloy wheels enhance the silhouette’s powerful character and, due to the wide track, they’re virtually flush with the body.
- The invisible B-pillar, the window line rising steeply from front to rear, and the prominent C–pillar combine with the seemingly endless roofline to convey a very distinctive presence.
- On the rear, an integrated roof spoiler adds an extra touch of dynamism and increases down-force on the rear axle. The unmistakable taillights enhance the muscular effect of the rear design and are clearly visible in the Scirocco’s silhouette.
- Due to the relative proportions of the roof and shoulder, the waistline is strongly contoured. The roof is also considerably narrower than the overall body, giving the Scirocco its athletic look and making the already wide track appear even wider.
- The overall rear design – wider, mightier bumpers, the wide track, roofline, roof spoiler and wrap–around rear window - gives the Scirocco an extremely purposeful look.
- The standard halogen headlights of the Scirocco illuminate the darkness, and the position lights and turn signals are integrated into one functional unit on the bumper.
- The optional bi–xenon headlights produce double the volume of light and come equipped with static cornering lighting. The perfect compliment to the menacing ‘face’ of the Scirocco.
Interior
- Inside the Scirocco, the driver and front passenger enjoy a sporty and ergonomically designed environment with “Matt Chrome” trim inlays on the instrument panel.
- The triangular handles and unusual armrests of the doors creates the impression of them carrying dash. The angular controls and instruments have been designed for intuitive function and have a clear layout for optimum accessibility and ease of operation. This is especially true of the centre console with its high positioning of controls.
- Alongside its uncompromisingly sporty character, the Scirocco also represents a coupe that is fully equipped for everyday motoring needs – and its interior dimensions are no exception. Even when the sports seat has been adjusted for a 1.90–metre–tall driver, there is still enough knee room for an adult on the rear seat.
- In addition to the full usability of all four seats, the Scirocco’s practical assets include a luggage compartment that offers the kind of variability you wouldn’t expect from a coupe. With all the seats occupied, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 292 litres, and as soon as the rear backrests are folded down (50:50), the volume increases to 755 litres.
Range
There are three equally impressive Scirocco models to choose from, but you can be certain that extreme confidence and driving pleasure come standard.
The Scirocco is available in three derivatives:
- 118kW 1.4 TSI manual *
- 147kW 2.0 TSI manual *
- 147kW 2.0 TSI DSG®
* Available third quarter 2009.
Performance
The Scirroco merges strong, sleek design, advanced functionality and superior tyre technology to make it a truly dynamic sports coupe that delivers unrivalled performance.
Alloy wheels and wide–section tyres are absolute essentials for a sports coupe, as well as being an important safety aspect. The 1.4 TSI Scirocco model is fitted with 17–inch ‘Long Beach’ alloy wheels and 225/45 R17 tyres as standard.
For the top–of–the-range 2.0 TSI Scirocco, the tyre width increases from 225 to 235mm and the profile is reduced to 40mm. The 18-inch ‘Interlagos’ rims, named after the Brazilian racing circuit, add a very distinct touch of style. Aptly, the design of these rims is inspired by a turbine.
Safety
You can place complete confidence in the new Scirocco. Just because it’s a sports coupe doesn’t mean you have to compromise on safety.
- Apart from its powerful engines and dynamic drivability, the Scirocco features comprehensive driver assistance systems: the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), with Brake Assist and counter steering assistance, includes an Anti–lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Traction Control System (TCS). Therefore, critical driving situations can be controlled at an early stage.
- In addition to the driver and passenger airbags (the latter can be deactivated), the side airbags at the front are further complemented by a comprehensive curtain airbag system for all passengers.
- The ‘ParkPilot’ takes the hassle out of parking in tight spaces and makes turning around easier by providing the Scirocco’s driver with acoustic and visual signals to indicate the distance to obstacles behind the car.
- ‘Park Assist’ makes light work of parallel parking by steering the vehicle into the chosen parking space. All that’s left to do is brake and accelerate accordingly.
- The ‘Plus’ anti–theft warning system features interior monitoring via the interior light module in the headlining, ensuring your new Scirocco stays exactly where it belongs. An essential feature for such a desirable vehicle.
